Injectables Q & A

What are injectables?

Injectables are cosmetic treatments that enhance facial features and reduce the visible signs of aging. They include dermal fillers and Botox®.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like injectables that add volume under the skin. Integrated Dermatology of Groton uses the Restylane® brand of dermal fillers, which contain hyaluronic acid — a water-trapping substance naturally found in your skin.

These injectables fill in lines and creases, lift sagging cheeks, and plump up lips.

Botox

Botox is a cosmetic injectable that temporarily minimizes the appearance of lines and wrinkles at the corner of the eyes (crow’s feet), in between the eyebrows (frown lines), and creases on the forehead (worry lines).

My lips are thinning. Can injectables help?

The team at Integrated Dermatology of Groton uses dermal fillers to treat thinning lips. The lip injection adds volume to thin lips, enhancing size and shape. Injectables also treat lip lines, the creases that form above the lips.

Your skin naturally loses strength and volume as you age, causing your lips to look thinner than they once did. Dermal fillers restore this lost volume, giving you back your youthful look.

I’m fearful of needles. What do injectables feel like?

The cosmetic dermatology team at Integrated Dermatology of Groton customizes your injectables treatment plan and discusses the details with you so you know what to expect. Botox injections are quick, cause little discomfort, and don’t require a topical anesthetic.

Dermal fillers require more injections that may cause some discomfort. The team may apply a numbing lotion to your skin prior to these injectables to minimize pain.

Injectables at Integrated Dermatology of Groton take an hour or less. The team recommends avoiding strenuous activity after your session to reduce the risk of bruising.

When can I expect to see results from injectables?

You can expect to see results from your dermal filler injectables right away. Botox results may take a week or more. Fillers last six or more months, while Botox lasts up to four months.

The team at Integrated Dermatology of Groton recommends scheduling your next injectables treatment as soon as you notice the effects wearing off.
